Finance
The Finance Department is responsible for managing the City’s resources to make sure DeKalb stays financially healthy, follows all laws and financial rules, and uses public funds in ways that best serve the needs of local residents and businesses.
Our team provides exceptional government financial management and has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the City's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
Financial policies are central to a strategic, long-term approach to financial management. These policies help ensure the City is making budgetary decisions based upon sound financial principles.
The purchasing manual provides clear guidelines to help department heads obtain quality goods and services at the lowest possible price. These guidelines make sure purchases are made in a way that’s efficient, responsible and aligned with the City’s commitment to excellent public service.
Under state law, municipalities must make a good-faith effort to collect and share information about the businesses it works with. Specifically, the City asks vendors and subcontractors to report whether they are minority-owned, women-owned, or veteran-owned businesses, and whether they are officially certified or self-certified as a small business under federal guidelines. This information is published online to promote transparency and support diverse and inclusive business practices.
