Non-Downtown Residential Parking Permits

Residents who qualify for a parking permit can submit an application to the DeKalb Police Department. Proof of location is required for residential parking permits. Preferred documentation includes a valid state issued ID or rental lease agreement. Permits are available for free and are valid from August 1 until July 31. A map of Resident Parking Permit areas can be found here. Residential Permits are limited to one permit per driver.

Downtown Residential Parking Permits

Residents who reside in the area between First and Seventh St and between Oak and Grove St are eligible for a free downtown parking permit. Downtown Residential Parking Permit Application  Downtown Parking Lot Map

For both non-downtown and downtown residential parking permits, please bring the completed application form and your proof of address to the DeKalb Police Station, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Applications cannot be accept by mail or e-mail.

Guest and Visitors

Guest passes can be obtained at the DeKalb Police Station, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The resident will need to provide proof of address in order to obtain passes. Residents are given 12 guest pass to use from August 1 to July 31. Each guest pass can be used for a maximum length of three days. Guest passes are intended for people visiting, spending the night or weekend, and similar situations. 

The Police Department can grant temporary waivers for special circumstances. These events are usually only for a few hours during the day and will be assessed based on the availability of parking, the population density of the area, and the crime statistics in the area.  If you have an event that might qualify for a temporary waiver, the City would advise you to call the Police Department at 815-748-8400, option 1.
