    Celebrate Vikings for Leif Eriksson Day! Discover these Scandinavian scourges of the sea through crafts and learning activities. Create a board game, write runes, and more! Learn the facts and myths about this group of warriors, and be ready to be surprised! This event is open to kids of all ages.   2. Video Gaming Club w/ the Gaming Goat

    Teens and tweens are invited to join the Video Gaming Club run by the Gaming Goat. Try new or retro games each week. There will be tournaments and gift card prizes!   3. Teacher in the Library

    If you have a student needing help, refer them to Teacher in the Library! In this program, FREE homework help will be available at the library for District #428 students in grades 1-8! The program coordinator will maintain contact with the child’s teacher, and a card will be attached to work completed with Teacher in the Library.     Join the Pokémon League! Everyone is welcome to attend this program, run by the Gaming Goat, where you can learn how to play Pokémon, and then participate in the game.     This month’s read is The Home Place: Memoirs of a Colored Man’s Love Affair with Nature by J. Drew Lanham. Born and raised in Edgefield County, South Carolina, Lanham delivers a deeply moving memoir on what it means to be “the rare bird, the oddity.” he introduces us to the family members who have influenced his life – his grandmother Mamatha, a healer, and his caring but stern father and mother who are both schoolteachers. At a young age Lanham falls in love with the natural world that surrounds him and eventually becomes a naturalist and an ornithologist.   6. Maker Mondays: 3D Print a Jack o’ Lantern

    October 8, 2018, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ DeKalb Public Library, Nancy D. Castle Collaboration Studio

    Just in time for Halloween! We’ll learn how to use TinkerCAD to customize a 3D designed pumpkin that we’ll print out for you after the class! We’ll include a flicking tea light to give your Jack o’ Lantern just the right amount of spooky glow! The finished pumpkin will measure around 3” in tall by 3” around. This program and the printed pumpkin are completely FREE! Seating is limited, enrollment begins in the Nancy D. Castle Collaboration Studio 15 minutes before the event starts.
