December 20, 2017, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ DeKalb Public Library, Youth Services Study Rooms
Hearing is one of the most important senses for learning and education. Each year, many children suffer from undetected temporary and permanent hearing loss. The consequences of having a hearing loss include speech and language delays, lower academic achievement, emotional distress, frustration, and fatigue because they are unable to hear clearly. The good news is that the negative effects of hearing loss can be reduced and minimized with early detection and early intervention. Doctor of Audiology students and faculty at Northern Illinois University are conducting a research study to examine and compare the hearing status of children in the United States and in several countries in Asia and South America. We will offer free hearing tests to children aged between 0 and 18 years at DeKalb Public Library. Accompanying family members are also welcome. All tests are non-invasive and they follow standard hearing procedures offered in hearing clinics around the world.
