1. Will LRS pick up large items?

Yes, bulk items up to 2 per week will be collected on collection day.

2. When does loose leaf collection begin?

Weather permitting, leaf Collection will begin October 30th.  Crews will start in the south and work north; we expect to complete three to four passes throughout the City.  Weather permitting, the last day of leaf collection will be December 1st. To ensure your leaves are picked up by the final collection cycle, please make sure all leaves are raked to the curb by 7 am, November 27th. All dates are subject to change based on weather conditions, particularly snowfall events, and other factors beyond the control of the City.

3. Where do I report a problem with a street light?

Most street lights are owned and maintained by ComEd; however, many are City owned street lights. Call us at 815-748-2040 to report. Please have the closest address to the light when reporting.

4. After a snow storm, when will my street be plowed?

Streets are cleared in order of priority beginning with emergency snow routes. See when to expect a snowplow by viewing the Snowplowing Schedule Map.

5. How do I know if my parkway tree is affected by Emerald Ash Borer?

Please contact the Department of Public Works, Street Operations Division at 815-748-2040 for the status of your parkway tree. For more information on the Emerald Ash Borer, please visit Illinois Department of Agriculture

6. Does the City offer free mulch?

Yes. As the forestry crew trims or removes trees, the chipped wood is taken to the City garden plot area at 1025 W. Dresser. This mulch is available at no cost to DeKalb residents for residential use (no contractors). This is available seasonally on a self-loading basis. Quantities vary dependent on forestry activities.

7. How can I get a pothole repaired?

Call the Operations Division at (815) 748-2040. We keep a running list of pothole complaints for our crews to repair.

8. How do I dispose of carpeting?

Carpet must be rolled and tied (or taped) in bundles not to exceed 4' long and 50 lbs. - maximum 10 rolls per week, or placed in 32 gallon containers not more than 50 lbs. in weight.
