DSATS - Public Comment

The DeKalb-Sycamore Area Transportation Study and the City of DeKalb are announcing a public comment period from Friday, June 1, 2018 to through Monday, July 16, 2018 to receive public comments on changes in bus service in DeKalb and Sycamore, IL scheduled for August 6, 2018.  A Public Hearing on the proposed changes will be held Monday, July 23, 2018.

The changes include:

  • 1.00 dollar fare for Paratransit.
  • Standardized Fares on both VAC Green and Blue Routes and Huskie Routes 6 and 7:
    • 50 cent fare for adults.
    • 25 cent fare for senior citizens, age 65 or older and people with disabilities.
    • 25 cent fare for K-12 students.
    • NIU Students with Huskie ID ride free.
    • Free transfers between VAC and Huskie Line Routes.
  • Route Number Revisions:
    • Huskie Line Route 6 will change and now will be Route 16.
    • Huskie Line Route 7 will now be Route 17.
    • Huskie Line Routes 17 and 18 will charge the same fare as VAC.
    • VAC Green Route will change and will now be Route 18.
    • VAC Blue Route will now be Route 19.
    • VAC Red Route (Kishwaukee) will now be Route 20.
  • New Saturday and Sunday service on Route 18.
  • New Saturday and Sunday service on Route 19.

The public involvement procedures used in the development of these public transit changes satisfy the program-of-project requirements of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 5307 Program. The documents about the proposed changes are available at the following locations:
