[ARCHIVED] Downhome in Downtown DeKalb: A Huskie Homecoming Block Party

The chance of a little rain isn’t stopping Huskie Nation from celebrating NIU’s Homecoming!

Downhome in Downtown DeKalb: A Huskie Homecoming Block Party will happen rain or shine on Thursday from 5-8 p.m.! In the event of showers, plans are already in place for this new, family-friendly and free event to continue inside the Egyptian Theatre.

The block party celebrating NIU’s 115th Homecoming has something for everyone. Classic cars will line the streets with food and drinks available from downtown vendors. The March of the Huskies will include special guests, NIU student-athletes and the Huskie Marching Band filling downtown DeKalb with sound. The community will then come together to cheer NIU on to victory during a pep rally followed by a street dance.

The Egyptian Theatre will be transformed into Huskie Hall. Here, kids can take a Huskie Pride photo, collect student-athlete autographs and get a temporary Huskie face tattoo.

With so many events already happening inside the Egyptian’s lobby, it will be easy to move most of the block party activities into the 1,400-seat theater so the fun can continue in the event of rain.

The block party is part of Homecoming celebrations happening all week long. Businesses in DeKalb, Sycamore and DeKalb County have become Huskie Hosts by offering discounts throughout Homecoming week.

A full rundown of the block party activities can be found here.
