In 2019, the City of DeKalb's Economic Development Commission submitted and application and was approved for an $11,000 grant from the DeKalb County Community Foundation to assist with the creation and production of a Transit Resource Guide. The purpose of the Transit Resource Guide was to create an informational pamphlet that would identify various organizations and businesses within the DeKalb Urbanized Area that residents and Northern Illinois University students could access via the City of DeKalb Public Transit System.
Over the past two years, city staff and local business OC Creative, in partnership with the Economic Development Commission, worked diligently to create the guide originally envisioned by the committee members. The Transit Resource Guide includes public transit information that helps residents and community members better understand how to access medical facilities, grocery stores, social and government agencies, child care, and areas of employment. As of today, the final version of the Transit Resource Guide is now available for public consumption. The guide is accessible in both English and Spanish, and can be found on the Transit Resource Guide website. Physical copies of the guide are also available, and will be distributed to local agencies and organizations within the area.
If you would like physical copies of the guide, including English and/or Spanish, please contact the city's Transit Manager, Marcus Cox, at 815-748-2370 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
