TIF - Taxing District Update Letter

On August 7, 2018, the City convened a meeting of the Joint Review Board to evaluate and make a recommendation on the proposed Central Business District TIF District (TIF 3). At this meeting, concerns regarding the administration of TIFs 1 and 2 were raised by members of the Board. That meeting was continued to September 4, 2018.

At the September 4 meeting, it became clear that moving forward with a recommendation on TIF 3 required discussion of TIFs 1 and 2. As a result, members of the Board committed to further discussion and continued the meeting to September 7, 2018. Between September 4 and September 7, members of the Board communicated concerns to the City. In order to facilitate more discussion, the September 7 meeting was continued for 30 days, giving the taxing bodies more time to collaborate on the resolution of issues surrounding present and future TIFs.

It is the strong preference of the City to continue working with other taxing bodies in a collaborative fashion, looking forward to the continuing success of downtown redevelopment and transformative projects. To that end, Mayor Jerry Smith and Interim City Manager Molly Talkington have released a statement regarding the City’s position as it relates to moving forward on TIF.
