About the Department
The DeKalb Fire Department prides itself on a service delivery system that is very responsive to citizen needs and built on proficient customer service. DeKalb Fire Department employees are highly skilled and trained professionals who demonstrate the highest standards of honesty and integrity and believe in and practice teamwork and open communication. The Fire Department staff 3 fire stations with an on-duty staff of 13 firefighter and emergency medical response personnel.The DeKalb Fire Department consists of 52 sworn and 1 civilian employee and is divided into 2 divisions: an Administrative Division and an Operations Division. The department provides the following services to approximately 50,000 people:
- Emergency Medical Services
- Fire Prevention
- Fire Suppression
- Hazardous Materials
- Public Education
- Technical Rescue
Service Area
This service area includes the City of DeKalb, Northern Illinois University, and the DeKalb Fire Protection District. Overall, we service an area of approximately 55 square miles.Insurance Service Organization Rating
The Insurance Services Organization (ISO) rating for the City of DeKalb is a Class 2 and all areas within a 5 mile driving distance of a City of DeKalb fire station are also an ISO Class 2!
