Police Benevolent & Protective Association
The Police Benevolent & Protective Association (P.B. & P.A.) of Illinois was founded in 1936 and is the largest downstate police association consisting of approximately 195 units. These units could be 1 man police departments up to over a thousand. The association was originated to safe guard police pensions and to lobby for passing legislation for the betterment of all law enforcement officers.
History
The DeKalb P.B. & P.A. Unit #71 was founded for the same reasons but it also was organized to be a charitable arm of the DeKalb Police Department, which the organization donates most of its time as of 1986.Charities

EVENTS HOSTED BY THE POLICE BENEVOLENT & PROTECTIVE ASSOCIATION
BIG BROTHERS & BIG SISTERS BOWLING
Members of the department participate in a round of bowling to raise monies for the Family Services Agency "Big Brothers Big Sisters" program.
BREAKFAST
The Pancake Breakfast is held every year in April at the Knights of Columbus. Some of the monies earned are donated to the community. This past year monies were donated to the Fairdale Tornado Relief Fund.
COPS & BOBBERS
The Cops & Bobbers is a fishing derby held in conjunction with Big Brothers & Big Sisters of DeKalb County. A special thanks goes out to Target, Lukulos, Shabbona Lakeside Bait & Tackle, Zebco and CST Storage for their donations and assistance. Several children were all given a Zebco fishing rod, lunch and awards.GOLF OUTING
The annual golf outing is held the 2nd Saturday of July at the River Heights Golf Course. Lunch and dinner are provided with many prizes given out. Some of the monies raised are donated back to the community.Registration form
