Reverse 911 Interactive
Community Notification System is designed to communicate
both emergency and non-emergency information to the
citizens of DeKalb.
The Reverse 911 Community Notification System allows the
police department to rapidly notify specific
geographical areas by telephone.
A recorded message can warn
residents of an actual or potential emergency, such as
flooding, evacuations, a missing child, or a crime
pattern that is occurring in a neighborhood.
The
capability to disseminate critical information rapidly,
with minimal staff, means safety to residents and
businesses alike. Officers who would be pulled away from
assignments to conduct door-to-door notification may be
left at strategic posts or to respond as needs arise
during a crisis.
Reverse 911 increases the level of community safety and
awareness, in addition to the effectiveness of public
safety agencies, by involving citizens first-hand in the
safety process.
The system uses software
to call selected phone numbers. Phone numbers are
supplied by the phone companies to the system each year
to update the database. If a citizen or business
moves or changes a phone number between updates, you
should notify us to make sure your information is in the
system. Phone numbers supplied by the phone company
do not include unlisted numbers so those people that
wish to be notified in an emergency will need to supply
their number to us.
Information you provide will be kept confidential and
will not be released or used for any other reason other
than the intended purpose of the Reverse 911 system. |
