The
Citizen’s Police Academy is designed to give citizens a better
understanding of the operations of their local police agency.
Through law enforcement instructors and other representatives of
the law enforcement community attendees will participate in and
learn about various aspects of law enforcement.
Academy curriculum will include crime scene processing, gang
investigations, drug investigations, the role of the prosecutor,
shoot-don’t shoot scenarios, a K9 demonstration and much more.
Graduates of the academy are
encouraged to share their knowledge and experiences with the
community as the opportunity arises. Everyone benefits from
enhancing citizen understanding of the role and function of
their police department.

application and undergo a background check
There is no cost for the academy.

CURRICULUM
The Citizen Police Academy is a 10-week course, held one evening
per week from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the DeKalb Police Department,
200 S. 4th St. DeKalb, Illinois.
Members who complete an 80% attendance will be
awarded a certificate of completion at a ceremony presided over
by the Chief of Police William Feithen.
