Halloween is celebrated on October 31st. On this day, we recommend that Trick or Treating be done between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

The DeKalb Police Department has established the following safety tips to help make this Halloween a safe and enjoyable one:
  • Do not trick or treat alone.
  • Never eat your treats until they are examined first.
  • Never enter a strangerís home.
  • Never invite children into your home.
  • Never accept a ride from a stranger.
  • Do not take shortcuts through backyards or alleys.
  • Go with a responsible adult.
  • Carry a flashlight with you.
  • Tell your parents where you will be trick or treating.
  • Wear proper fitting shoes and costumes.
  • Masks are not recommended if it impairs your vision.
  • Walk on sidewalks NOT the street.
  • Look in all directions before crossing the street.
  • Firearms that look real should not be used.


We urge parents/families to plan a safe trick or treat route that avoid homes of sex offenders.  Please take the time to learn where sex offenders live so they these homes can be avoided.
