DeKalb Firefighters Receive Recognition

On May 9, Firefighter/Paramedic Jared Thorp received the Firefighter Medal of Honor in Springfield. “The Medal of Honor is the highest award given by the State of Illinois to a firefighter for an act of outstanding bravery or heroism, by which the firefighter has demonstrated in great degree the characteristics of selflessness and personal courage above and beyond the call of duty, under adverse conditions, with the possibility of extreme personal risk.” Nine additional firefighters were recognized at the award ceremony, receiving the Unit Citation Award: Lieutenant/Paramedic Brett Gautcher, Firefighter/Paramedic Tim Stiker, Firefighter/Paramedic Todd Adamson, Firefighter/Paramedic Chris Krupa, Firefighter Matt Klotz, Captain Mike Thomas, Firefighter/Paramedic Andrew Romano, Firefighter/Paramedic Matt Holuj, and Firefighter/Paramedic Jon Ritter.
